Warriors demolish Redbacks on second day
Western Australia has demolished South Australia in their Pura Cup clash at the WACA Ground, subjecting the Redbacks to an embarrassing defeat on only the second day of the four day match.
South Australia was all out for 120 in its second innings - after making just 114 in its first - to lose by an innings and 55 runs.
Man of the match Steve Magoffin picked up four wickets for WA, while Ben Cameron (36) and Shane Deitz (26) were the only SA batsman to provide some resistance.
Openers Tom Plant and Jason Borgas, captain Matthew Elliott and rising star Mark Cosgrove could only manage 12 runs between them at the top of the order.
Earlier, WA opener Chris Rogers had put the Warriors in a commanding position when he notched up his third century of the season in his side's total of 9(dec)-289, a lead of 175.
Rogers saw out a slow first session before edging a ball past first slip to the boundary off the bowling of Dan Cullen to bring up his century after lunch, raising his bat and punching the air to celebrate.
At that point the Warriors looked to be cruising to a large first innings lead before the Redbacks fought back and snared five quick wickets.
Cullen enacted some revenge on Rogers two overs later and dismissed him for 110 before claiming the wicket of Luke Pomersbach for a duck in the same over.
The loss of Rogers and Pomersbach sparked a collapse with Adam Voges bowled by Mark Cosgrove for 39 the very next over.
Luke Ronchi provided some resistance, belting Cosgrove for three consecutive boundaries in a quickfire 18 before being bowled by Shaun Tait.
The collapse continued when Tait claimed his fifth wicket of the match, Steve Magoffin for a duck, with WA losing five wickets for 34 runs.
WA declared and sent the Redbacks in before the tea break.
