Outright win looms for Vic
A stubborn seventh-wicket stand by Tasmanian veteran Michael Bevan and Damien Wright thwarted Victoria's efforts for an early end to the Pura Cup clash at Bellerive Oval.
The Bushrangers, who declared at 9-432 before lunch, decimated the Tigers top order to leave them flailing at 6-46 in the hour before tea.
But second drop Bevan and Wright dug in to deliver a 191-run partnership, driving Tasmania to 6-237 at stumps on day three.
The Tigers remain 257 runs shy of the massive 494-runs needed for victory.
Bevan will resume on Thursday unbeaten on 95, with Wright one run shy of his maiden first-class century.
Their performance was in stark contrast to Tasmania's earlier performance.
Opener Jamie Cox lasted just 13 minutes at the crease before being caught by Cameron White off quick Michael Lewis for five.
Lewis also took David Dawson for 10, Tigers skipper Dan Marsh for two and bowled Sean Clingeleffer for 15, giving him 4-18 off 7.4 overs.
Left-arm paceman Mathew Inness took care of the rest, trapping Michael Di Venuto LBW for four and capturing Michael Dighton four balls later for two.
Victorian skipper Cameron White said just one more wicket was needed to do the job.
