Dutch earn Hopman Cup place
Michaella Krajicek and Peter Wessels have earned the Netherlands its first Hopman Cup appearance since 1996 with victory in a qualifying tie against Zimbabwe in Perth.
Krajicek, just 15 years old and the younger sister of former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek, came from a set down at the Burswood Dome to defeat Cara Black 3-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-0.
Wessels then overcame Wayne Black 7-6 (9-7) 7-5 to seal the eighth and final place in the field.
The Dutch pairing is in Group B alongside No.2 seed and defending champion America, the third-seeded Slovak Republic and Australia.
Russian top seeds Marat Safin and Anastasia Myskina headline Group A, together with fourth seed Argentina and unseeded pair Italy and Germany.
Argentina's Gisela Dulko and Guillermo Coria will open the event against Italy's Francesca Schiavone and Davide Sanguinetti.
Australian representatives Mark Philippoussis and Alicia Molik open their campaign against the Slovak Republic on Monday.
Russia is a clear tournament favourite ahead of a US team weakened by the withdrawal of world No.1 Lindsay Davenport with a knee injury.
Meghann Shaughnessy will now partner James Blake, who is looking for a third straight win.
Black won with Serena Williams in 2003 and Davenport last year.
