Philippoussis crushed after injury blow
Mark Philippoussis will undergo an MRI scan on his right knee on Wednesday which could determine his availability for this month's Australian Open.
Philippoussis was forced to retire after just four games of his Hopman Cup clash against Frenchman Jerome Haehnel on Tuesday night when he injured his knee as he chased down a ball along the baseline.
The Victorian had been in line to receive a wildcard from Australian Open organisers, but this latest injury setback could put paid to any hopes of an appearance before his hometown fans.
Nathan Healey has been drafted in as a replacement for Philippoussis in the Australian Hopman Cup team, and will fly to Perth later on Wednesday to team up with Alicia Molik for Thursday's tie against the US.
The French team were awarded a 3-0 win on Tuesday night following Molik's straight sets loss to Tatiana Golovin, with Philippoussis's injury also forcing the Australians to concede the mixed doubles rubber.
