Bookies take no chances with Aussies
British bookmaker William Hill has made Australia 2000-1 on favourite to beat minnows The Netherlands in their World Cup match at Potchefstroom on Wednesday.
Hills spokesman Graham Sharpe said the odds were the shortest the firm had ever offered about any sporting contest.
"It will cost punters two thousand pounds to win one if they fancy a bet on them," he said.
He also said England were 300-1 to beat African outsiders Namibia in their next World Cup Group A match in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.
"A 2000 pounds double on England and the Aussies both winning their matches would give potential profit of 6.67 pounds," said Sharpe.
Australia have started the competition with wins over Asian giants Pakistan and India while the Netherlands have lost to both India and England.
Namibia have been beaten by both Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
