Stosur out of women's doubles at Open
Australian Samantha Stosur's hopes of a home grand slam title evaporated on Wednesday as she was bundled out of the women's doubles semi-finals at the Australian Open.
Stosur and American partner Lisa Raymond, the No.1 seeds, perhaps paid the price for a late night in winning their quarter-final the previous evening when beaten 6-4 4-6 6-2 by Cara Black of Zimbabwe and South African Liezel Huber.
But Stosur remains in contention for the mixed doubles title.
She later teamed with India's Leander Paes to beat South African Chris Haggard and Greece's Eleni Danilidou 6-3 6-4 to move into the mixed quarter-finals.
Already there are fellow Aussies Nathan Healey and Bryanne Stewart, who won their second round match on Tuesday.
But Chris Guccione and Casey Dellacqua bowed out of the mixed doubles, ruthlessly dealt with by No.1 seeds Bob Bryan and Raymond at Rod Laver Arena.
Bryan and Raymond won 6-2 6-2 in 39 minutes.
Australian Paul Hanley remains in the men's doubles after he and partner Kevin Ullyett of Zimbabwe won through to the semi-finals.
Hanley and Ullyett beat Frenchmen Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut in their quarter-final match 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.
