Scots score opening tour win
Scotland has scored its first win of its Australian tour, downing NSW Country 48-10 at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.
Country had the best of the early opportunities, but failed to really threaten the Scotland tryline.
Scotland on the other hand continually squandered possession, fumbling a number of balls down Country's end.
It didn't take long for Country coach Andrew Cox to bring his big guns off the bench, with Super 12 imports Scott Staniforth and Scott Fava introduced in the 16th minute.
Country had the advantage of a series of early penalties, which enabled it to take the lead in the 17th minute via a penalty goal to winger Leif Cooper.
Scotland five-eighth Dan Parks responded with a penalty of his own in the 23rd minute before halfback Greame Beveridge capitalised on a fine run down the touchline by winger Simon Danielli to score under the posts.
Winger Hugo Southwell then celebrated his call-up onto the bench for Scotland's Test against Samoa on Friday with try minutes later.
Former Australian under-21 representative Paul Dearlove ran on for his first taste of action in the Scottish blue jersey just before halftime, only to see Cockatoos five-eighth Daniel Drewe score a converted try against the run of play, leaving the halftime score at 20-10 in Scotland's favour.
The Cockatoos came out with some renewed vigour in the second half, but it wasn't enough to stop the Scotland onslaught.
Scotland flanker Scott Gray stepped through some flimsy defence in the 46th minute to open the scoring in the second half.
