Wolves coach set to be axed
Substitute Serkan Oksuz has scored five minutes from fulltime to give the Melbourne Knights a 2-1 victory over Wollongong in their NSL clash at WIN Stadium.
It was the end of a forgettable season for both clubs who cannot make the top six playoffs.
Wollongong even faces the slim prospect of finishing with the wooden spoon should bottom club Marconi beat leader Perth by two goals in their final round match on Sunday.
The loss was Wollongong's fifth straight and is likely to spell the end for coach Ron Corry who is unlikely to be retained as coach for next season.
Corry confirmed he would not apply for the Wolves job next season.
"I've never applied for a job in my life," the coach said.
Wolves general manager Robert Rossi said the door was still open for Corry to return as coach next season.
Rossi will discuss the position with Corry but confirmed six applications for the job.
Rossi said applications would close next Friday and a decision on the coach for next season would be made by April 11.
Meanwhile, Knights coach Franjo Domic was pleased to finish the season with a win.
