Stallions break drought
Young Socceroo Alex Brosque bagged a hat-trick as Marconi ended a goal drought of more than eight hours by hammering Wollongong 4-2 in Friday night's NSL clash at WIN Stadium.
The Stallions, rooted to the bottom of the table, hadn't scored for more than five games - 484 minutes - before tonight but were gifted a late Christmas present by the woeful Wolves.
After not managing a goal since November 8, Marconi scored twice in four minutes midway through the first half to shut Wollongong out of the contest.
Dino Mennillo and Stuart Young scored goals in the final eight minutes for Wollongong but, at 4-0 down, they were merely a consolation.
Brosque opened the scoring on 24 minutes, tucking away his chance after ex-Wolves striker Tony Perinich fluffed his shot.
Wollongong hardly had time to take in that setback when four minutes later it was 2-0 down through a brilliant goal by Angelo Costanzo.
The defender was left unmarked on the edge of Wollongong's penalty box, and, with the outside of his right foot, rifled a shot into the top corner.
Wollongong midfielder David Huxley added to the home side's misery by being sent off three minutes from halftime.
Huxley needlessly reacted to a tackle by former teammate Darren McDonald by kicking the Marconi defender on the leg.
