Seasoned prop Neemia Tialata has been named to replace the injured Ben Franks for the remainder of New Zealand's November tour of Britain.

Franks, 26, suffered a back injury while training with the All Blacks on Friday and is returning to New Zealand.

Team doctor Deb Robinson said Franks had a bulging disc in his lower back and would be unavailable for the next two Tests against Scotland and Ireland.

Tialata, 28, has played 43 Tests for New Zealand since 2005 and last played for the All Blacks in their home series against Ireland and Wales in June.

The All Blacks beat England 26-16 in the opening Test of the tour on Saturday and play Scotland in Edinburgh next weekend.
