Scott positive over local golf tour
Rising star Adam Scott is convinced the Australasian Golf Tour will recover from its dwindling status.
Just seven years ago there were a dozen PGA tournaments in Australia but that number has been whittled back to four major events, and perhaps three in 2006.
"It would be great to somehow get this tour up and firing again, like it was when I was growing up," Scott said.
There is doubt over the future of the Heineken Classic with the Dutch brewer ending its sponsorship after this week's tournament.
That would leave just the Australian Open, Australian PGA and the Australian Masters as the flag-bearing events in this country.
"Our tour is not as strong as it has been in the past, but I don't think there's any danger of it having a bad effect on the game," Scott said.
"I think this week is a great example that we've still got hope. We've got Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Bjorn, Nick Faldo and Greg Norman.
"There's still plenty of hope of resurrecting this tour and getting it back to where it was.
"Obviously it's just a lot of hard work from the administrators.
The players really put in as big an effort to support each event as we can and I think if we keep doing that we'll be fine."
