Broncos deny player incident

The Brisbane Broncos denied one of the National Rugby League club's players was involved in an incident at a Brisbane casino.

Channel Ten news in Brisbane said the incident occurred at the Treasury Casino last Sunday night just hours before Queensland State of Origin squad member Chris Walker was arrested and charged with assault.

Walker was sent home in disgrace by Queensland officials on Monday after breaking a Maroons' squad camp curfew in Brisbane and getting himself arrested.

Police used capsicum spray to subdue Walker before he was taken to the city watchhouse and charged with assaulting police, obstructing police and being a public nuisance. He faces court in Brisbane on May 18 and has said he will defend the charges.

The Queensland Rugby League axed Walker from the Maroons preliminary squad for game one against NSW while the Roosters also stood him down for one game, fined him 10 per cent of his salary and imposed a full alcohol ban for the remainder of the season.

But the QRL and the Broncos denied that any other player had allegedly misbehaved.

The Broncos issued a statement under the heading "media speculation" regarding accusations about a player from the club.

The statement said the club had telephoned the accused player and he had "flatly denied" committing the alleged offence.

The Broncos also contacted the casino and were told it had no complaints about any Brisbane players or officials, while the QRL also advised there had been no complaints made to it.

"Taking into account the above, Broncos managing director Bruno Cullen had advised that the Broncos do not intend to take action with what the club regards as media speculation and unsubstantiated hearsay," the statement said.
