An assault complaint against former Brisbane Test forward and National Rugby League board member Gorden Tallis has been dropped.

Tallis was allegedly involved in an incident with a bar staffer at Brisbane's Regatta Hotel early on Monday.

But police said a complaint against Tallis was withdrawn.

Former Brisbane captain Tallis, 33, was out having social drinks with his wife Christine and other ex-players when the alleged incident occurred.

He said while making no admissions or accepting any blame, he later apologised to the hotel manager and the male staff member.
