Broncos' time goes by at Casablanca
The saga of footballers behaving badly in Brisbane may be over along with the Broncos' season.
The co-owner of a nightclub where Broncos' captain Darren Lockyer at first denied, then admitted, mock tackling a bar manager, said the behaviour of the crowd after the Broncos loss to Melbourne Storm was "fantastic".
Casablanca nightclub co-owner Sarosh Mehta said the post-match crowd's behaviour was incident free, despite some anxiety.
"(It was) absolutely great, a few humorous moments where people tried to do some mock tackles on me on the footpath, but other than that, great.
"We were pleasantly surprised, considering some of the nasty calls and threats we had received.
"We were expecting a little bit of rowdyism, but it was all fantastic, incident free."
Mr Mehta said the club had cancelled functions and doubled security after the bar received abusive phone calls and emails from fans angry over the exposure of film of Lockyer.
Police took a high profile in the Caxton Street precinct, close to the game venue at Suncorp Stadium and home to the Casablanca.
A police spokeswoman said post-game revelry was "nothing beyond a normal Saturday night".
Mr Mehta said any future patrons would have to abide by Queensland's liquor laws or they would be shown the door.
A rumour that Lockyer would visit the bar to personally apologise had not come to fruition, but Mr Mehta still regretted the outcome on the field.
"I'm sorry they lost because we are Broncos supporters, always have been and always will be," he said.
