Bullets lodge NBL complaint over Heal
The Brisbane Bullets have formally complained to the NBL over an incident involving South Dragons player-coach Shane Heal.
Brisbane coach Joey Wright on Wednesday night accused Heal of deliberately elbowing Bullets guard Stephen Black in the groin, during their match in Melbourne.
Bullets general manager Jeff Van Groningen, who was at the match and has since seen the incident on video, said the club believed the league should investigate.
"We obviously had coach Joey Wright put it on record last night that he felt it was inappropriate so we are united as a club in that opinion," Van Groningen said.
"Our opinion is that it warrants (the NBL) having a look at it.
"To us it's about the rules of the game.
"If you feel something's outside the rules of the game it needs to be looked at."
If the NBL decides there is a case to answer, it will notify the Dragons, who then have 24 hours to decide whether Heal will appear in person before a tribunal or answer the case via teleconference.
Heal has denied any wrongdoing.
"I just thought it was a nothing incident," he said.
