Force not involved in NZ sex assault probe
The Western Force say no one from their Super Rugby touring squad is involved in the police investigation into an alleged sexual assault in Dunedin.
An 18-year-old university student complained she was sexually assaulted in the New Zealand city early on Sunday morning, with reports suggesting a visiting rugby player might have been involved.
The Johannesburg-based Lions were in Dunedin last weekend for their 26-22 win over the Highlanders on Saturday night.
The Force have been staying in the same Dunedin hotel as they prepare for Friday's clash with the Highlanders.
"The Western Force has no involvement whatsoever in the alleged incident," Force chief executive Vern Reid said in a statement on Wednesday.
"The team has not been contacted by local authorities and, following our own internal inquiries, we are completely satisfied that no member of the club's touring squad was involved.
"Any suggestion a player from the Western Force was involved is totally inaccurate."
NZPA reported the Lions had also denied any of their players were being investigated over the alleged incident.
