Sixers trounce foul-happy Hawks
Adelaide trounced a foul-ridden Wollongong outfit by 10 points at the Distinctive Homes Dome, its first win by more than five points since the opening game of the NBL season.
The Sixers led by as much as 23 in the third term, before easing home 113-103 to stay on top of the table.
Wollongong racked up a whopping 37 fouls, the crowd sitting through no fewer than 84 free throws.
Adelaide had great service from captain Brett Maher (23 points, six assists), Dusty Rychart (20 points, 15 rebounds) and Jacob Holmes (18 points, 13 rebounds), while Willie Farley grabbed 17 points including a pair of helpful final term threes.
Tony Rampton had a monster night for the Hawks, 22 points backed up by a remarkable 21 rebounds, with import Cortez Groves nailing 15 last term points to finish with 30 alongside 10 rebounds.
Adelaide gained the upper hand in a willing first term by shooting a little less poorly from the field (37 per cent to 22 per cent) than the Hawks to lead 25-17.
Holmes helped himself to an exceptional seven rebounds for the quarter.
Wollongong struggled to get quick ball, best epitomised by a backcourt violation that came back to haunt them when David Cooper took three points from a forceful dunk and foul.
Their problems continued in term two as the Sixers exerted themselves at both ends.
Rychart was busy with 10 points and six rebounds, and though the Hawks briefly cut the margin to six when Matt Campbell and Glen Saville added Wollongong's only consecutive baskets of the half, a 12-3 Adelaide run into half time blew the advantage out to 13 at the main break.
