Bombers youngster charged with assault
Young Essendon player Michael Hurley has been charged by police following an alleged assault of a taxi driver in September.
Police confirmed on Friday Hurley, 19, had been charged with recklessly causing injury and other assault-related offences.
He is scheduled to appear before Melbourne Magistrates Court on January 20.
Hurley was arrested after allegedly kicking and punching a taxi driver in the early hours of September 25 after attending the after-party of the Nine Network's The Footy Show grand final edition.
After he was arrested, the Bombers described Hurley's alleged assault as "unacceptable" and were disappointed he was out into the early hours.
However Essendon said in a statement on Friday they would not comment because the matter was before the courts.
Hurley enjoyed a promising first season in the AFL by playing 10 games and he starred in the round-22 win over Hawthorn, which earned the Bombers a finals berth.
