Queensland Cup player banned for doping
Queensland Cup rugby league player Ryan Peters will serve a two-year suspension after testing positive to a banned substance.
The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) said on Tuesday the Easts Tigers player tested positive to prohibited stimulant methylhexaneamine after a match against Mackay Cutters in Brisbane on June 12 last year.
Peters appealed the suspension, but ASADA said it was recently dismissed.
The ban, backdated to the start of a provisional suspension, means Peters cannot participate in any sport that has adopted a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-compliant anti-doping policy until July 9, 2012.
ASADA also acknowledged the decision of the West Australian Football League (WAFL) to impose a two-year ban on former Richmond and now Swan Districts player Travis Casserly after he tested positive to a high concentration of pseudoephedrine.
