Lions cut Mills, Kiel
The Brisbane Lions have cut youngsters Wayde Mills and Haydn Kiel as new coach Michael Voss ramps up his review of the AFL club.
Mills, 21, and Kiel, 20, both of Southport, were not offered a position on the 2009 player list.
"The decision came as part of the football department's list management and review process in preparation for 2009," a Lions spokesman said.
Mills played 16 senior matches and kicked three goals with the club since being drafted with selection No.25 in the 2005 AFL National Draft.
Kiel had spent the past two seasons on the Lions' rookie list.
Voss has not wasted time making his presence felt since taking over from Lions legend Leigh Matthews.
Under his restructure plan, assistant coach Paul Hudson has moved on and Marcus Ashcroft has been made redundant with club administrator Graeme Allan moving from recruitment and list management to head of the football department.
He recently signed former Carlton head coach Wayne Brittain as an assistant.
Voss' arrival has also reportedly had a big impact on off-contract players.
Midfielders Michael Rischitelli, Justin Sherman and Albert Proud are all expected to sign new deals with the Lions.
Defender Joel Patfull is also reportedly close to a new deal.
And it is believed recently retired midfielder Nigel Lappin has been asked by Voss to reconsider his decision and run out for the Lions in 2009.
