Lions need to roar away from Gabba: Voss
Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss says his side must start performing away from the Gabba if they are to have any impact this AFL season.
The Lions have not won a game outside Brisbane since round eight last year, and on Saturday face the test of playing Richmond - an opponent they have not beaten since 2004 - at the MCG.
While Voss said he could only focus on results under his coaching reign, he admitted the Lions faced a couple of challenges in round seven, even if the Tigers were without injured star Matthew Richardson.
"For us to be able to have any sort of say in this season and for us to get what we want out of the season you can't hide behind the fact that we need to win when we're away," Voss said on Friday.
"For us that's going to be a little challenge for us on the weekend, as well as the opposition."
The Lions have won three of their four games at the Gabba this season, but lost to Carlton at Etihad Stadium in round two and were thrashed by Geelong at Skilled Stadium in round five.
The club's last win outside Brisbane was over the Blues in round eight last year, but that came at the roofed stadium and not at the MCG, where they have lost six times from their past seven visits.
