Door remains ajar for Davis at Lions
The door has been left ajar for former Sydney premiership player Nick Davis at the Brisbane Lions ahead of next week's AFL pre-season draft.
New coach Michael Voss said he had not drawn a line through Davis' name despite the ex-Swan not being sighted at Lions off-season training.
However, delisted St Kilda ruckman Michael Rix looks set to get the nod from the Lions on Tuesday.
Davis - delisted by Sydney - was invited by Voss to attend off-season training but appeared to have missed out when he was not present at the Lions' three-day boot camp at Stradbroke Island last month.
However, Voss refused to rule out grabbing Davis with their No.5 draft pick.
He said the club were looking at three possible options next week - snapping up a crumbing forward like Davis, an extra midfielder or a journeyman ruckman like Rix.
"Nick fits into that (crumbing forward) category that he can kick goals and he knows where they are," Voss said.
"Inside 50m it's rare to find players who can find the ball in that area of the ground because it's just so congested.
"It's just what we decide to do there.
"Do we go down that path or do we decide to go for an extra midfielder or do we put journeyman ruckman in place?
"We have a couple of different things that we're trying to think about."
But it is understood Rix, 27, will to be taken by the Lions.
Rix was part of St Kilda's biggest clean-out in eight years at the end of the 2008 season, one of eight players delisted in October along with former Lion Jayden Attard.
Rix would add welcome depth to a Lions ruck division relying on Jamie Charman and youngster Matthew Leuenberger.
"I guess Michael Rix has been trialled and obviously listed at St Kilda so he's one that springs to mind," Voss said.
"We've got three ruckman now but (draftee) Bart (McCulloch) obviously is a bit younger and Michael has got a little bit more experience."
