Reimers the Rising Star round 16 nominee
Don't let the garish orange boots or the flamboyant style fool you - teenage Bomber Kyle Reimers possesses a clinical football brain.
Reimers, who played a key role in the side's resurgence against Richmond last week before the side went down, earned the Round 16 Rising Star nomination.
With a goal in the third quarter at the MCG and a total of 18 possessions, Reimers' actions matched his attire.
The game built on a solid month for the 19-year-old midfielder, who made his debut last season.
He kicked two goals in Essendon's win over Carlton and gathered 21 possessions against West Coast.
Bombers coach Matthew Knights described Reimers as "a very refreshing young man to coach" whose style should not shade his substance.
"He's his own person ... everyone expresses themselves in different ways," Knights said.
"I'll get on his case when he kicks torpedoes from 60 out instead of kicking drop punts and doesn't pick up his man every now and then.
"About the boots, that's Kyle's choice and sometimes it's to do with what he's been doing with the doctors or the boots he needs to wear for his feet.
"He's a good listener - in team meetings if you ask him questions he knows the answers.
"He's switched on when he needs to be switched on and don't let the orange boots and the exuberance overshadow Kyle's football ability because he is technically a very sound footballer."
Reimers says his boots always draw comments from his opponents.
"They think of something new every week, which is pretty funny - I've got told I'm as ugly as my boots," he said.
"I don't really pay attention to what people are saying about them because in the end their just a pair of footy boots, they're just a different colour."
Reimers played three matches in his debut season last year, but has become a senior regular in 2008, playing another 13 games in his trademark orange boots.
He was drafted by Essendon from Bunbury and Peel Thunder with pick No.47 in the 2006 national draft.
Reimers is the Bombers' second Rising Star nominee this season, along with Bachar Houli.
