Sweet win for Reds
The Queensland Reds savoured another sweet victory over old foe NSW at Aussie Stadium, delivering their best performance of the Super 12 season with a 35-23 victory.
The Reds were winless heading into the match but promised they would lift to continue their unbeaten Super 12 record against the Waratahs.
They did just that, running in four tries, in an exciting encounter that differed from the usual dour affairs played out between the two states.
Courageous fullback Chris Latham picked up one of those tries in his man of the match performance, and finished the game with "more black eyes than Mike Tyson" according to coach Andrew Slack.
"He's got plenty of ticker and talent," the smiling Queensland coach said.
"He's never satisfied with what he does and what he does is fantastic most of the time.
"He loves playing NSW, he loves playing footy, but there were a lot of people who allowed for Chris to play as well as he did."
While the Reds remained at the bottom of the table, despite securing the bonus point, the Waratahs slipped out of the top four, which is filled completely by New Zealand sides.
NSW lock Jono West must face a judiciary hearing on a charge of "deliberately and recklessly stomping" Queensland five-eighth Elton Flatley in the 53rd minute.
Compounding their misery, Waratahs skipper Matt Burke, who left the field midway through the second half, is in doubt for next week's clash against the 2002 champion Crusaders after reinjuring his knee.
