Sailor links Tuqiri to Reds
Wendell Sailor expects to reunite with former Brisbane Broncos wing partner and fellow rugby union convert Lote Tuqiri next season while Stirling Mortlock and David Lyons have also been linked to the Queensland Reds.
Sailor, who committed to the Reds last week, gave a another strong hint that NSW Waratahs winger Tuqiri will return to Brisbane next year.
Tuqiri has an exit clause from his Waratahs contract and there has been continual speculation he will join the Reds and reactivate what was rugby league's most damaging modern day wing combination.
"He probably can't say too much at the moment but I'm confident I can get him back to Queensland," Sailor told Channel Seven.
Queensland Rugby Union CEO Jeff Miller was more circumspect as far as securing Tuqiri was concerned, though he said a deal could be done as soon as the Super 12 competition finishes.
"I really don't know where we are as far as Lote is concerned, he might say he's not interested at all," Miller said.
The Reds have been looking to next season for some time as they only have pride to play for with two rounds left before the Super 12 playoffs.
Centre Daniel Herbert (Perpignan-France) is heading overseas and fullback Chris Latham (Munster-Ireland) is likely to follow suit.
Sailor said the Reds could be in the hunt for ACT Brumbies and Wallaby centre Mortlock, while Waratahs No.8 Lyons is mooted as a possible replacement for Japan-bound Reds skipper and Australian vice-captain Toutai Kefu.
"What I've heard through the grapevine is Stirling Mortlock and David Lyons are the names being banded about," Sailor said.
