Braid takes Reds vice-captaincy
Queensland Reds flanker Daniel Braid will run out for the Super 14 clash with his old team the Blues at Ballymore on Saturday as vice-captain.
With regular vice-captain Will Genia stepping into the on-field leadership role following the season-ending knee injury to skipper James Horwill, the experienced Braid will now act as deputy and the forward leader.
"Daniel is already one of the leaders in the team and in his position on the field is well placed to support Will," said coach Ewen McKenzie.
"He's a former All Black with 70 Super Rugby caps to his name for the Blues and now Queensland, so he's well equipped in the leadership stakes.
"He also leads by example at training and on the field so we see he and Will as a good combination in terms of setting the standard as well as leading the team."
Braid played 78 games for Auckland and the Blues between 2001 and 2008, including 59 Super Rugby appearances before joining the Reds last year as a marquee signing.
