Williams on comeback trail
Former Australian Test paceman Brad Williams took his first steps towards injury comeback with a probing fitness test at the WACA.
Williams bowled 11 overs under the watchful eye of Warriors' coach Wayne Clark, team doctor Damian McCann and state selectors Wayne Hill and Lee Bott.
Williams bowled an initial six over spell then took a 45 minute break to ensure their was no swelling in his right knee before finishing with a five over spell.
He reached 95 per cent of his peak pace during the test.
The 30-year-old right arm express quick has shortened his run up by five metres and can still reach his top pace which is well into the 140kmh range.
"I am definitely on the right track and I got better as I bowled," he said.
"I didn't experience any discomfort and enjoyed bowling off my new shortened run. I spoke with Wayne Clark and he didn't think I had lost any pace by shortening my run.
"I generate my pace through my upper body so by having a shorter run I am easing the pressure on my knees."
Williams injured his knee in the Pura Cup match against Tasmania on October 19.
He sustained a muscle tear behind his knee where the calf muscle attaches to the knee. Williams also sustained extensive bruising when he briefly dislocated his knee cap during the injury.
