Woolmer hopes new players can surprise
Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer is hoping his new look team can catch Australia by surprise when their three Test series commences next month.
The Pakistan squad arrived in Perth on Monday night before the first Test commences at the WACA on December 16.
The visitors have scheduled three warm-up matches to adapt to Australian conditions.
Only four players remain from the last Pakistani team to tour Australia which was swept 3-0 back in 1999.
But Woolmer feels his young chargers might have a surprise or two for the world champions.
"I hope to surprise Australia," he said.
"I suppose everyone does these days, don't they? We're expecting a really tough tour, we're looking forward to it. I think we've got a very nice, young, balanced side.
"Probably not quite ready yet but on the other hand, you never know. They've got some serious talent and maybe we can give someone a surprise."
Of the 17-man touring squad, only captain Inzamam-ul Haq, Yousuf Youhana, Abdul Razzaq and express paceman Shoaib Akhtar have played a Test match in Australia.
The visitors commence their tour with a three-day game against the Western Australia second XI starting on Wednesday, followed by the traditional Chairman's XI clash at Lilac Hill on December 7.
