McGrath claims WACA record
Australian paceman Glenn McGrath claimed the Test wicket-taking record in Perth late on day three of the first cricket Test against Pakistan at the WACA Ground.
McGrath's dismissal of Pakistan opener Imran Farhat - LBW for one just before stumps - gave the fast bowler a 40th WACA wicket and edged him ahead of former Australian quick Merv Hughes (39).
But McGrath, who conceded Perth was not his most productive ground, has taken 10 Tests to reach the mark, while Hughes took 39 scalps here in six matches.
McGrath does have some good memories at the WACA Ground, having made his Test debut here, against New Zealand in 1993-94, and having taken a hat-trick against the West Indies in the 2000-01 series.
West Indies captain Brian Lara - the second victim of that hat-trick - was McGrath's 300th wicket in Test cricket.
McGrath took 1-44 in Pakistan's first innings to draw level with Hughes.
The 34-year-old now has 465 Test wickets from 104 matches and is third on the list of game's wicket-takers, behind only compatriot Shane Warne (555), Sri Lankan Muttiah Muralitharan (532) and the West Indies' Courtney Walsh (519).
