Pakistan pace duo to miss one-dayer
Pakistan has decided to rest pace duo Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Sami for Tuesday's Chairman's XI tour match, wrapping its key weapons in cotton wool heading into next week's first Test against Australia.
Shoaib bowled just 10 overs in a three-day game against a West Australian second XI last week and Sami 16 as they eased their way into the tour.
Shoaib, the world's quickest bowler, then declared he would be playing in Tuesday's limited overs match and a four-day outing with the Warriors starting on Thursday in an attempt to adapt quickly to Australian conditions.
The first match of the three-Test series against the world champions starts at the WACA on December 16.
But Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq had news for his No.1 paceman heading into the traditional Lilac Hill fixture.
"He's not playing, he will play the four-day game," he said.
"I'm giving him some rest because he's played the three-day game and he's playing the four-day game later in the week.
"Sami is also resting and will play in the four-day game.
"We're looking for the Test matches and that's why they're not playing."
Pakistan spinner Shoaib Malik will also miss Tuesday's match after hurting his right bowling arm playing table soccer.
