Adelaide defeats Townsville in NBL
Adelaide import Willie Farley top scored as the 36ers enjoyed a comfortable win over Townsville in their NBL match in Adelaide on Wednesday night.
The Sixers overcame flat second and third quarters to down the Crocodiles 111-91 at the Distinctive Homes Dome.
The game failed to live up to past encounters between the fierce rivals with neither side able to maintain any momentum.
Adelaide was unstoppable in the first quarter with Jacob Holmes hitting nine points to give the Sixers a 36-23 lead.
Townsville briefly went to zone defence to start the second period but Willie Farley put an end to the experiment with consecutive three pointers.
The Crocodiles stepped up their defensive pressure and a series of tough drives by import Robert Brown saw them peg the lead back to 11 at halftime.
Scoring dried up for both sides after the break before Brad Newley came off the bench with a three and followed that up with a gutsy drive.
Robert Rose came to life late in the quarter hitting a three pointer under pressure to bring Townsville within a basket two minutes before the final break.
Offensive rebounds allowed Adelaide to score five points in the final 20 seconds for a 78-68 lead going into the last quarter.
But the final period was all Adelaide with Farley and captain Brett Maher steering the home side to an easy win with Townsville looking tired.
