Bullets pull off miracle
Brisbane pulled off a miraculous 92-91 win over Adelaide in their National Basketball League clash at the Brisbane Convention Centre.
Down by 10 points with five minutes remaining, veteran skipper Derek Rucker iced two pressure free throws in the final minute to put the Bullets into the lead 92-91 for the first time in the game.
Brett Maher's off balance shot in the dying seconds to win the game hit the iron.
Rucker and import Bryant Matthews came up with a game-winning play with just over one minute remaining when they trapped Adelaide guard Willie Farley mid-court, preventing him off-loading the ball within the five seconds allowed.
From the inbound play Brisbane centre Bobby Brannen scored to cut the margin to 90-91 before Rucker made his two free throws after being fouled by Farley.
Adelaide looked in control of the game from the outset but the Bullets kept chipping back after being down by as many at 18 points one stage.
Forward Daniel Egan proved a great inside target in the second half and his back-to-back baskets early in the final quarter helped Brisbane edge back into the contest.
He finished Brisbane's second leading scorer with 22 points and worked hard on the glass for a game-high 14 rebounds.
Rucker led Brisbane's scoring with 22, including a perfect 7-7 from the charity stripe while Matthews chipped in down the stretch to finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Adelaide made their intentions clear early when guard Brett Maher tossed up the perfect ally-oop lob for a high flying Willie Farley.
