36ers home by 17 over Melbourne in NBL
They came to end Adelaide's winning streak at home but the Melbourne Tigers limped away with the knowledge that the 36ers might just be the real deal.
Celebrating Paul Rees' 250th game for the club, Adelaide took an unlikely 17-point NBL win, the home side grabbing its 10th home victory on the trot this season, 109-92.
With imports Willie Farley and Dusty Rychart leading the way, Adelaide turned a one point break at halftime into a procession in the final term.
Rychart shared a team high 24 points with Brett Maher and Farley hit 20, while for Melbourne Dave Thomas finished with a game-high 28.
Importantly for Adelaide, danger man Chris Anstey could manage only 13, well held by the Sixers for most of the night.
But all the Tigers struggled with Adelaide's defensive pressure, the team finishing with a costly 22 turnovers to the Sixers 10.
In the first quarter the Tigers came out strong but Adelaide weathered the early storm to lead at the break, 30-26.
For the Sixers Rychart was in the action early with a three and two neat drives while the man Adelaide fans love to hate, Anstey had six points despite looking quiet for most of the period.
Veteran big man Rees also came on and found some space inside for two baskets and four points.
In the second quarter the Tigers found some new avenues to the basket through Rashad Tucker and cut down the Sixers opportunities, a double team on playmaker Farley working for most of the period until the import broke free with a steal and a dunk.
