Kings topple Sixers 100-93
Neither appeared in the mid-week NBL All Star Game but Kings imports Rolan Roberts and Mark Sanford showed they still knew how to put on a show by steering Sydney to a 100-93 win over Adelaide.
The American duo somehow missed World All Star selection for last Wednesday night's showcase clash at Townsville, won by the Aussie All Stars, despite keeping the Kings (17-8 record) on track for the minor premiership.
But their star status was not in question after Sanford (26pts, eight boards) and Roberts (21pts, 12 boards) combined to bring an undermanned Adelaide to its knees and the 5,553-strong Sydney Entertainment Centre crowd to its feet.
The pair detonated with a first half dunking exhibition before consolidating Sydney's thinning lead in the final term against a determined Adelaide outfit without scoring machine Dusty Rychart (knee tendonitis).
Backing up from his Aussie All Star turn, Kings skipper Jason Smith was just as impressive with 23 points and seven boards.
For the gutsy Adelaide (15-10), Boomers guard Brett Maher (18pts) and import Willie Farley (29pts) returned from All Star duty with style.
American Rychart succumbed before tip-off, leaving a gaping hole in Adelaide's arsenal after averaging 21 points per game and dropping a league-high 40 on the Kings in last Friday night's 116-105 win.
There's no rest in sight for Adelaide - it travels to Brisbane to play the Bullets night before hosting the Melbourne Tigers on Wednesday.
It took four minutes for Adelaide to get on the board after the Kings went on an 11-0 run.
But the 36ers still cut the deficit to just 26-24 by quartertime thanks to a Maher basket on the buzzer.
