Hunter Pirates down Adelaide 36ers
Star import Brian Wethers was again the hero as the Hunter Pirates grabbed another major NBL scalp, beating the Adelaide 36ers 113-110 at Newcastle on Saturday night.
Wethers scored a game-high 36 points, including 11 in the final quarter, to lead the Pirates to a fourth straight win at home.
The talented swingman showed his nerve to hit four straight three-throws in the final minute to secure a thrilling win.
With just 33 seconds remaining and the Pirates down 110-109, 36ers import Willie Farley was called for a pushing foul on Wethers.
The 36ers bench was then hit with a tech foul sending Wethers to the line for four shots and the possession to Hunter.
Despite the intense pressure Wethers drained all four for a 113-110 advantage.
Adelaide's Dusty Rychart had a chance to send the game into overtime but his last second speculator from deep fell short.
It was a second straight home game where Wethers has produced something special.
He hit a last second three-pointer to force overtime against Cairns last Sunday.
The Pirates went on to win that match and again were cool down the stretch on Saturday night.
