Taipans show their bite at home
The Cairns Taipans have continued their giant killing form at home by accounting for NBL ladder leader Wollongong 98-87 at the Cairns Convention Centre on Saturday night.
The hosts last weekend ended the Perth Wildcats' perfect start to the season in north Queensland with a 108-100 double overtime thriller.
However there was no extra time needed on Saturday night as the Taipans moved to a 3-4 win-loss record after comfortably accounting for the Hawks (4-1) who had won their opening four matches of the season before Saturday night.
Taipan Anthony Stewart topscored for his team with 22 points while Nathan Crosswell (20) and Aaron Grabau (18) were also strong contributors as Cairns had five players post double figures.
For the Hawks veteran Mike Kelly was the topscorer with 22 points.
