Blaze burn Slingers 97-82
The Gold Coast Blaze have registered their first home victory in the NBL, a 97-82 win in their round four clash against the Singapore Slingers.
A red hot third quarter at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, in which the Blaze held the visitors to just 12 points, set up the club's second win from six games.
The Gold Coast led 52-48 at the main break but returned to the pine a new-look team to bust open the margin within minutes.
Led by forward Scott McGregor, the hosts started the quarter with a 12-4 run and wrapped it up with a 15-0 roll for an 82-60 advantage at the last break.
Singapore went about reeling in the buffer in the fourth and managed to stall the Blaze's offensive flow but fell well short of a comeback.
As has often been the case in the club's short lifespan, Gold Coast guard James Harvey was instrumental and finished with a game-high 30 points at 11 of 17 from the field.
Five teammates joined Harvey in double figures, the best of them was McGregor who tallied 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots.
For the Slingers, Mike Helms top-scored with 21 points and pulled down eight boards while Rod Grizzard managed 17 points and eight rebounds.
