Townsville outclasses Singapore 110-98
The Townsville Crocodiles stretched their NBL winning streak to three games when they outclassed Singapore 110-98.
The Crocs returned to the Swamp high on confidence after recording two away wins against the Wollongong Hawks and the South Dragons last week, while the Slingers arrived in the north desperately seeking to improve on their two and 10 record.
The hosts shot out to a commanding 15-point lead during the first quarter thanks to some accurate three-point shooting from inspirational captain John Rillie.
Rob Grizzard and Mike Helms combined for 23 first half points for the Slingers but it wasn't enough to keep pace with the red hot Crocs.
Recently selected World All-Star Corey 'Homicide' Williams confirmed his representative status, ripping the Slingers' defence to shreds with 10 first half points and six assists, taking his side ahead 65-41 at the main break.
Slingers star Grizzard engineered a mini fight back, hitting 11 third quarter points with a series of long bombs to add some respectability to the scoreboard.
Although scoring freely, Grizzard soon found foul trouble and was forced to the bench and saw the Crocs go ahead 88-71 at the final break.
Townsville young gun Michael Cedar ensured the Crocs kept the Slingers at arms length, opening the scoring in the fourth quarter, landing two shots from beyond the arc.
Ben Pepper capped his return from injury with another solid performance at both ends of the court while Grizzard's game high 28 points was not enough to save his team from their 11th defeat of the season.
