Saints bid farewell Knowsley Road
St Helens reached their fifth successive Super League grand final with a 44-22 win over Huddersfield on Friday as the Saints said farewell to Knowsley Road, their home for 120 years.
They will face either Leeds or Wigan in next Saturday's showdown at Old Trafford where they hope to put an end to a three-final losing streak.
Despite the gap in the final score, they didn't have it all their own way on Friday with Huddersfield taking a 22-18 lead just after the break with a Michael Lawrence double and Shaun Lunt and former Saints player Lee Gilmour all scoring for the Giants.
Two tries from prop Bryn Hargreaves had given Saints a flying start before the Giants, inspired by captain Brett Hodgson on his farewell appearance, fought back.
But a second try for Paul Wellens, added to second-half efforts from Tony Puletua and Francis Meli turned it round in the last 20 minutes for the home side.
Captain Keiron Cunningham, making his 495th appearance, scored his side's seventh try to secure the victory.
