Late-show Eastmond keeps Saints flying
A try three minutes from time from Kyle Eastmond helped Super League leaders St Helens clinch a narrow 10-6 win over Wigan on Friday.
Wigan were heading for a first win at Knowsley Road for six years when they led 6-4 thanks to Sam Tomkins' try and Pat Richards' conversion just before the break which had answered Andrew Gidley's try for the Saints.
But 20-year-old scrum-half Eastmond had the final say with a dazzling try under the posts.
"He's very quick, very elusive and showed what he can do when he takes the line on," said St Helens coach Mick Potter.
"He's got other things he needs to work on, but taking on the line is not one of them."
The result halted Wigan's run of five successive wins.
Elsewhere on Friday, second-placed Huddersfield won 24-0 at Hull to remain four points behind St Helens, while Wakefield enjoyed a 30-24 win at struggling Salford.
