NRL player Lui charged with assault
Wests Tigers halfback Robert Lui's career is in limbo after he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and stood down by the NRL club.
Police were called to Lui's home in North Strathfield at about 7pm on Monday night and found a woman with swelling to her face.
Lui was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was given bail and will appear in Burwood Local Court on October 7.
The Tigers said in a statement that Lui co-operated fully with police and the 21-year-old and his partner Taleah Rae Backo will be offered counselling by the club.
The alleged incident came three days after the Tigers were eliminated from the 2011 finals when beaten by the Warriors in their semi-final.
In September last year, Lui was charged with nine offences related to allegedly assaulting Backo, who was pregnant at the time, just hours after his team were knocked out of the NRL finals.
Lui, who had since reunited with Backo and become a father, had those assault charges dismissed in April.
