Man charged over Fenech assault
Police charged a man over the assault on former world champion boxer Jeff Fenech, who said he wanted to put the whole episode behind him.
Four men attacked Fenech outside a restaurant in Sydney's south on Sunday night, leaving the boxer nursing a deep gash to his face after undergoing surgery.
Bankstown Local Area Commander Superintendent Mick Plotecki said police investigating the assault arrested a 20-year-old man in his Punchbowl home about 12.30pm (AEDT).
"He has been charged with malicious wounding, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray," he said.
Supt Plotecki said the arrest came after investigations into a vehicle seen leaving the scene of the assault.
Three people are still wanted over the assault and police are confident of making further arrests, he said.
Fenech said he was keen to put the incident behind him.
"As far as I'm concerned the matter's over with for me," Fenech told Sky News.
"It happened in the street and I'm different to everybody else and I won't be going to no police station and identifying anybody.
"There's been a lot of talk about what's happened and who it is (that attacked me).
