Masten wins AFL rising star nomination
West Coast midfielder Chris Masten has been nominated for the NAB Rising Star award following his scintillating round 16 AFL performance against Port Adelaide.
The 20-year-old was a standout against the Power, tallying a career-high 38 possessions and kicking a goal as the Eagles went down by 36 points.
Masten, snared with pick No.3 in the 2007 national draft, has averaged 20 possessions a game in his 15 matches this season, ranking in the club's top-10 in kicks, handballs, disposals and tackles.
He played nine matches last year before succumbing to osteitis pubis.
While Masten has regularly gathered big numbers this year, there are still concerns over his wayward disposals.
However, Eagles skipper Darren Glass had no doubt Masten would continue that facet of his game in time.
"Chris Masten played very well (and) he's starting to find a lot more of the footy," Glass said.
"There's no doubt he had OP last year, so they've had to monitor him this year as well and make sure his workload isn't too much.
"He obviously needs a bit of work on his disposal and his kicking, but he knows that."
