Ex-Tiger Galea seals Hull KR win
The former West Tigers second rower Ben Galea scored two late tries as Hull KR ignited their European Super League campaign with a 36-28 win over Warrington at the 'Magic Weekend' at Murrayfield on Sunday.
All 14 Super League teams decamped to Edinburgh for the 12th round of matches, spread across two days, at the home of Scottish rugby union.
And Justin Morgan's side saved the best till last on Sunday.
Hull KR trailed at half-time but Galea's heroics helped them move second in the table behind St Helens.
Earlier, reigning champions Leeds brushed aside a Catalans Dragons side who were without Greg Bird following his court appearance in Sydney last week.
Ryan Hall and Rob Burrow both scored early tries and further scores by Jamie Peacock, Hall and Kiwi international Brent Webb gave Rhinos a 30-0 advantage at half-time.
Dragons rallied briefly after the break but further scores from Hall and a Scott Donald interception secured a comfortable 36-16 win.
Former NSW State of Origin fullback Brett Hodgson scored 20 points as Huddersfield heaped more misery on the struggling Celtic Crusaders.
The Giants ran in seven tries as the Welsh side slumped to their 11th consecutive defeat.
Huddersfield are now within two points of the top.
Hull continued their recent revival with a series of fighting comebacks against Castleford, emerging 24-16 winners.
However, Castleford coach Terry Matterson will not be pleased with referee Phil Bentham.
With the scores deadlocked at 16-16 and just 12 minutes remaining, Bentham harshly penalised Castleford's Mike Wainwright.
Hull took advantage with Danny Tickle kicking the penalty and Danny Washbrook added a late try as Matterson fumed on the touchline.
Wigan avenged two previous Magic Weekend defeats by St Helens with a comprehensive 38-18 win on Saturday.
Winger Pat Richards was their star with a 22-point haul including two tries while New Zealand's Thomas Leuluai, Sean O'Loughlin, Gareth Hock and Joel Tomkins also crossed the line.
St Helens simply had no response, with coach Mick Potter admitting his team were outplayed from whistle to hooter.
Bradford produced a stunning first-half blitz to condemn Wakefield to a 32-16 defeat.
Paul Sykes crossed twice as Bradford ran in four tries before the interval and he completed his hat-trick after the break while former Manly Sea Eagle Steve Menzies also got himself on the scoresheet.
Harlequins opened the Magic Weekend with a 24-16 win over Shaun McRae's Salford thanks mainly to a confident second half-show.
David Howell, formerly of Canberra, and ex-Manly Sea Eagle Luke Williamson both scored. Australian-born Luke Dorn and Tony Clubb also crossed for the London-based side.
