Sharp's sweet revenge as Hull go top
Hull coach Jon Sharp saw his side go top of the Super League on Friday courtesy of a 24-20 win over a Huddersfield team who sacked him last June.
Jamie Thackray, Richard Horne, Tom Briscoe and Kirk Yeaman scored the tries which gave Hull victory and allowed them to leapfrog Super League champions Leeds who tackle Warrington on Sunday.
Huddersfield were in front after two minutes with a try from skipper and former Wests Tigers fullback Brett Hodgson, but Briscoe scored an equalising try seven minutes later with Hull going on to dominate the match.
Horne scored his 101st try for the club and although Joe Walsh replied for the hosts substitute Thackray powered his way over at the corner.
After the break Kevin Brown reduced the arrears but another error was pounced upon by Hull with Yeaman racing onto a grubber kick to touch down.
Danny Tickle was off target for the first time but made amends with a 40-metre penalty to open up a 10-point lead, which was a big enough cushion to enable Hull to withstand a late Giants onslaught - Brown sending winger David Hodgson over for a consolation try in injury time.
Chris Melling notched a hat-trick as Harlequins beat Salford 48-18, sending the Reds to a third successive defeat.
