Karmichael Hunt to be fit for NRL opener
Broncos fullback Karmichael Hunt is set to be fit for next month's NRL season opener after scans revealed a low grade abdominal tear on Monday.
Hunt tore a stomach muscle attempting to score in the Broncos' pre-season trial victory over the Canberra Raiders at Redcliffe on Saturday night.
There were fears that the 22-year-old faced an extended sideline stint.
But a Broncos spokesman on Monday said scans had revealed a "best case scenario".
However, Hunt will still miss Brisbane's final trial against Melbourne on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday night.
The Broncos spokesman said it would give the Test star ample time to rest before Brisbane's NRL first round clash with the North Queensland Cowboys on March 13.
The 30-16 trial victory over the Raiders gave new coach Ivan Henjak a perfect start to his reign.
Gerard Beale, 18, is firming as Hunt's replacement in the trial against Melbourne.
