Burgoyne in doubt for Hawks' opener
Gun Hawthorn recruit Shaun Burgoyne is in doubt for his club's AFL season opener against Melbourne on March 27 because of a hamstring injury.
The former Port Adelaide midfielder has suffered a low grade tear to his hamstring and is no certainty to be ready in time for the clash with the Demons at the MCG.
"Burgoyne, who was set to make his Hawks debut in the final round of the pre-season challenge, will now look to the early rounds of the home-and-away season to run out for the Hawks," the club said in a statement.
"Scans have revealed that the injury, which occurred at the end of team training on Wednesday, was not as bad as first thought."
It continues a frustrating run with injury for Burgoyne, the classy onballer's 2009 and final season at the Power ruined by knee surgery.
Hawthorn's general manager of football operations Mark Evan said the club would be conservative in its approach to the injury.
"He felt a grab at the back of the hammy toward the end of training," said Evans.
"A scan showed later today that he had a low grade tear."
