Te'o limps off at Broncos training
Impact forward Ben Te'o will undergo scans to determine the seriousness of a calf injury which forced him out of Brisbane's squad to play Canberra less an hour after it was named on Tuesday.
The 22 year-old Aucklander, who has been in outstanding form during Brisbane's four-game winning streak, cut a dejected figure as he hobbled from the training paddock on Tuesday in considerable pain.
He was heard tell one of the club's medical staff "it felt like I was hit by a rock" as he clutched at his left calf.
Following a brief chat with coach Ivan Henjak, Te'o was ruled out and replaced by prop Joel Clinton, who gets a belated opportunity to push his finals claims after missing wins against St George Illawarra and the Cowboys.
Soon after a distressed Te'o struggled from the field he was followed into the dressing room by centre Israel Folau who only returned from a fractured ankle last weekend against the Cowboys.
Folau returned to the field after changing his football boots for more comfortable runners but left a second time with his ankle still stiff and sore.
Brisbane can hit the finals on a five game winning roll if they beat Canberra - who humiliated them 56-0 last month - on Sunday night in what almost certainly will be fullback Karmichael Hunt's last game at Suncorp Stadium in front of Broncos fans.
"I guess there's a bit of sadness there," offered AFL-bound Hunt.
"I've had a lot of wonderful memories in a Broncos jersey, Queensland jersey and a few Test matches as well, so it will be a bit sad."
Wayne Bennett pulled a major shock in the first game of the 2004 season handing teenager Hunt the No.1 jumper against the physical Warriors over Kiwi recruit Motu Tony.
"I know (Warriors winger) Francis Meli absolutely laid me out," Hunt said of his NRL debut.
"It was quite a welcome for a 17 year-old kid coming into grade".
Hunt stamped his toughness from that moment and his courage has never been questioned since.
Like his teammates, the 22 year-old custodian would love to get one back on Canberra who delivered Brisbane a massive wake up call in their round 21 humiliation.
They haven't lost a game since.
"I wouldn't be sure about revenge or redemption but the embarrassment is still fresh in the back of our minds," he said.
"We've shown over the last few weeks we've moved on, but it was a huge wake up call for us and something that we needed."
"I'd love to get one back on them because we carry a lot of pride in what we do at this club as individuals and as a team and to go down to Canberra and perform like we did was very embarrassing."
Hunt believes the challenge after tough wins against St George Illawarra and the Cowboys is to lift their game another notch against Canberra.
A Darren Lockyer-led Broncos steaming into the finals on the back of five wins would have rivals edgy.
"It would have a few teams looking over their shoulder and five in a row would be very nice," he said.
