Broncos name youngsters for round one
Brisbane have named three players from last year's under-20 national competition in their side to play North Queensland in Friday night's NRL season opener at Suncorp Stadium.
Broncos under-20 captain Alex Glenn and winger Jharal Yow Yeh have been named in the backline along with young Roosters recruit Antonio Winterstein who has been chosen on the wing.
Karmichael Hunt has overcome a stomach injury and has been named at fullback for the clash with the Cowboys.
As expected, last year's most improved player, Nick Kenny and Joel Clinton have been named as starting props with Aaron Gorrell the first choice hooker.
Broncos coach Ivan Henjak is still awaiting a medical update on utility back Steve Michaels before finalising his four-man interchange bench.
The local derby clash with the Cowboys, who have also named a powerful lineup, is tipped to attract a crowd of more than 40,000 on Friday night.
Broncos: Karmichael Hunt, Antonio Winterstein, Alex Glenn, Israel Folau, Jharal Yow Yeh, Darren Lockyer (capt), Peter Wallace, Nick Kenny, Aaron Gorrell, Joel Clinton, Sam Thaiday, Ben Te'o, Corey Parker. Interchange: Andrew McCullough, Lagi Setu, David Taylor, Steve Michaels, Ashton Sims, Aaron Sweeney, Josh McGuire (three to be omitted)
