Monaghan extends stay in England
Disgraced rugby league star Joel Monaghan will to stay on at English Super League club Warrington after agreeing a three-year extension to his contract.
The 28-year-old brother of Wolves hooker Michael Monaghan arrived at the club on the eve of the season on a 12-month deal after severing his links with Canberra Raiders.
But the former Test winger, who has scored five tries in his first six appearances in Super League, will now be at the Halliwell Jones Stadium until at least the end of the 2014 season after becoming one of three Warrington players to sign new contracts on Wednesday.
"Joel has settled in particularly well and quickly," said Warrington head coach Tony Smith.
"It is quite unusual for an Australian or overseas player to fit in so quickly and look right at home but Joel has managed to do that both on and off the field.
"Some of that may be to do with his brother and also Adrian Morley who he has played with before (at the Sydney Roosters), but the guys have all taken to Joel."
Long-serving prop Paul Wood and teenage centre Rhys Evans are the other Warrington players to sign extensions, just a week after former captain Lee Briers signed a new 12-month deal.
